At Pedocìn, a popular beach in Trieste, men and women are separated by a concrete wall. Happy in their own segregated areas, everyone brings their own life to the place, enhancing and enriching this unique and picturesque spot. A reflection on borders, identities and generations, “L’Ultima Spiaggia” is a tragi-comedy about human nature.
Davide Del Degan and Thanos Anastopoulos take us to a parallel reality, to an institution in Trieste where time and space take on a dimension and value all their own. By crossing the two thresholds with their separate entrances, you enter into two worlds, one entirely feminine and the other completely masculine, both peopled with different microcosms, sometimes strange and comic, sometimes melancholic. This human mapping portrayed by the two directors over an entire year of filming brings us micro-stories where the true protagonist is the memory of events that involved Trieste, a border town par excellence. The question of identity and belonging become a central theme. From nostalgia for the Habsburg’s rule to the sentiment of Slavic affiliation, “Pedocìn” Beach shows us that the biggest walls are often those that people build inside themselves, as it becomes the “last resort” to think about divisions and the notion of welcome.
