Synopsis


Claire Simon pointe sa caméra sur Mimi Chiola, l'une de ses amies. Anecdotes, souvenirs, lieux marquants, la cinéaste retrace le parcours de cette Niçoise d'origine, de cette femme qui aime les femmes. Mimi se raconte, se dévoile, revient sur la façon dont elle s'est construite, sur ses parents, son enfance et sur tout ce qui l'a aidée à s'assumer...

Des arrière-cours de Nice aux chemins suspendus de la vallée de la Roya, Claire Simon filme Mimi, certes, mais elle filme aussi des lieux, des paysages, un territoire comme souvent dans ses films. Elle a fait le choix d’arpenter avec Mimi les endroits qui incarnent les histoires qu’elle nous raconte, qui la racontent. Et c’est un jeu entre les deux femmes : "Es-tu déjà venue là ?", "Tu m’as emmenée exactement à l’endroit…" Au fil des rencontres impromptues, rythmées de scènes musicales, cette mise en scène de l’instant dessine avec légèreté une vie passée en toute simplicité.

Claire Simon

Born in London, Claire Simon started out by making independent short films. She then discovered the art of direct cinema with the Ateliers Varan and made several documentaries such as “Coûte que coûte” (1995) and “Récréations” (1998), which won various awards. She has written and directed three feature-length dramas presented at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes: “Sinon oui” (1997), “Ça brûle” (2005), and “Les Bureaux de dieu” (2008). Among her more recent films are “Gare du Nord” (fiction, 2013), which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, “Le bois dont les rêves sont faits” (2016), “Le Concours” (2017), which won the best cinema documentary at the Venice Biennale in 2016, and “Premières solitudes” (2018), presented at the Berlinale Forum. Her latest work, “Le Village” is a long-term documentary series of 20x26mn films.
